Class action attorneys Chris Jozwiak and Shawn Wanta were published in Minnesota Lawyer’s Due Dilligence – a quarterly feature that examines case law updates, changes in practice and procedure, and legal trends. Their feature, “Class Actions: Enter the Consumer Lawyer,” takes a look at the growing and changing practice area of consumer law in Minnesota.

In the article, Wanta and Jozwiak discuss major milestones in the development of consumer protection litigation, including: changes in state and federal legislation that have tilted towards plaintiffs’ rights, the adaptation of traditional consumer protection litigation into class action lawsuits, and the diversification of plaintiff-side law firms to include consumer protection practice. With both individual and class action consumer protection litigation on the rise, Jozwiak and Wanta believe it’s key that both plaintiff and defense lawyers pay attention to the changing legal landscape:

“While consumer law remains a relatively small practice area, its rapid expansion and development means we should all be prepared to have more informed conversations about the practice… As the practice grows, we expect to see development in the substantive law as well as class action procedural law, all of which will affect clients.”

Minnesota Lawyer is an independent newspaper dedicated to providing court opinions, verdicts, settlements, appellate decisions, and legal news to enhance the practice of law in Minnesota.
