March 7, 2019 – Firm partners Chris Jozwiak and Shawn Wanta presented at separate CLEs to legal practitioners on key issues in employment law and consumer law respectively. On February 21st, Shawn Wanta lead a panel of consumer litigators to discuss the basics of consumer law. In their presentation, Shawn and the other panelists covered topics such as the Telephone Consumer Protections Act (TCPA), the Fair Dept Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA). The group also touched on commonly litigated claims, common traps to avoid, and liability for noncompliance.
On February 25th, Chris joined panelists Sheila Engelmeier, Jessica Roe and Commissioner Rebecca Lucero of the Minnesota Department of Human Rights to discuss bullying in the workplace. It’s not always clear what behavior should earn someone the label of workplace bully, but there’s undeniable consensus that bullies wreak havoc in the workplace. Chris and other panelists discussed the state of the law, practical advice for handling bullying cases, and what’s on the horizon legislatively in Minnesota and elsewhere.
