February 10, 2020 – On February 7, 2020, Wanta Thome PLC partner Scott Moriarity obtained a $117,000 jury verdict on behalf of an executive against his former employer A.W. Companies and two of its stakeholders. The former executive brought claims for fraud and breach of contract, asserting he was defrauded out of bonuses and that the company failed to pay consulting fees. The Hennepin County jury found both fraud and breach of contract, and it also concluded that the company and its stakeholders were engaged in a joint enterprise to defraud the executive.

This victory follows another trial win by BTJW in October 2019, when a Dakota County jury found in favor of a former Dakota County jail employee who was forced to resign after she reported an inappropriate relationship between a counselor and a patient. That employee, represented by firm attorney Dustin Massie, was awarded wage and emotional distress damages after the jury concluded the County violated the Minnesota Whistleblower Act by retaliating against the plaintiff and forcing her to quit following her report of illegal conduct.
